Sportsman\'s Cove Lodge has been featured on national television many times on shows such as Larry Csonka\'s \"North to Alaska,\"\"North American Fisherman on TV\" and ESPN, as well as being featured in front-page articles in \"Fish Alaska\" magazine. It is rated among the Top 10 fishing lodges in North America by the outdoor writers of \"Salmon and Steelhead Journal\" and \"Traveling Angler\" magazine. Sportsman\'s Cove Lodge is located on the site of a former fish cannery on Prince of Wales Island, just 20 minutes west by floatplane from Alaska\'s First City, Ketchikan. Guests fish the quiet waters of the Inside Passage aboard custom 37’ charter boats designed by Captain Mac especially for his operation.Captain Mac has decided that at age 74 it is time to retire (for the second time) and his beloved Lodge is now being offered for sale.

ABOUT MAC MCQUARRIE
Larry “Mac” McQuarrie. Sportsman\'s Cove Lodge Larry, or \"Mac\" as he is sometimes better known, grew up in a coastal Canadian timber and fishing community with many resemblances to Ketchikan. There were no roads in or out, and communications were by steamship or seaplane. As a teenager he started working on commercial fishing trollers, ranging the entire Pacific Northwest coast from Washington, B.C. and Southeast Alaska. After graduating from high school he attended the Canadian Naval Academy and spent several years at sea as a carrier pilot. After leaving the Royal Canadian Navy, he joined United Airlines in 1966, and while waiting to start training at United, served a stint as a helicopter bush pilot in the oil fields of northern British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. He became a U.S citizen as soon as possible in 1971. In the mid ‘70s, while still at United, he established one of the largest charter fishing operations in Westport, Washington. His charter office fished up to 17 large party boats capable of carrying 300 passengers a day. Mac was active in fisheries politics and foresaw the collapse of the Washington fisheries due to federal court decisions in the late \'70s and early \'80s. He looked northward to Alaska, and in 1984 he and Harding\'s Old Sourdough Lodge, in Wrangell, started their first year of Alaska operations together. After two years operating in Wrangell, Mac moved to George Inlet Lodge, south of Ketchikan where he operated for another four years. The late ‘80s found Mac able to realize his lifelong dream when he acquired Sportsman’s Cove Lodge. It was a \"depressed\" property, only partially completed, with no book of business and 23 liens against it. Since that time, while continuing his flying career at United based in Anchorage, Mac has steadily improved and expanded the Lodge. Captain Mac retired from United Airlines in after 34 years & has been able to devote even more time to the industry & the Lodge that he loves.
