I\'m 43. I started leading people at 24. The smallest number of direct reports I\'ve had is 7. The largest number is 25.But by the time I hit 30, I was burnt out, quit my job, and moved to a small town in upstate NY.I found a job in human services running a program for children on the Autism Spectrum.I fell in love with the work and with the people we supported.However, I quickly realized that my leadership approach wasn’t working.Something had to change.I realized that my “human service” began not with the people we served but rather with my staff.So, I decided to pay more attention to this relationship.My vision was simple:I wanted staff to feel:Welcome.Wanted.Supported.Valued.
