ABOUT CAMILLIA R. COMEAUX

Camillia R. Comeaux hails from Kansas City, Missouri. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and graduate certificate in Public Health from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She then went on to complete a Master’s of Science in Public Health and RWJF Health Policy graduate certificate at Meharry Medical College. She is currently a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) candidate at Florida A&M (FAMU) University in Behavioral Sciences and Health Education. She completed a doctoral fellowship in Health Disparities Epidemiology at Nemours Children’s Hospital where her research contributed to several projects that examined risk and risk differences in major malignancies in the United States using population-based registries. She has educational and professional experience in applied statistical modeling in understanding sub-population variances in disease development, prognosis, and outcomes. Her expertise is in maternal and infant health disparities epidemiology and embraces the assessment of genes and environment in understanding nutritional imbalances and predispositions to adverse pregnancy outcomes and chronic illnesses. Currently, Camillia is a Senior Research Analyst at the Behavioral Science Research Institute in Miami, Florida. She leads program and systems evaluations, research design, planning and implementation, data analysis, and grant writing within the organization and with clients. Camillia’s passion is to advocate for maternal and child health (MCH) initiatives that address the needs of disadvantaged and minority communities through effective processes and infrastructure, programmatic opportunities, sustainable educational practices, and policy development. Ultimately, empowering communities with the education and resources outlining the role of the social determinants of health have on adverse health outcomes and how they will drive policy development, community collaboration, and the development of a culturally competent workforce to evoke change.
