ABOUT CAMILLE STAVRAKAS-MATTÉI
I am an R&D Engineer at PsiQuantum. For the past 4 years I have been developing core hardware for an error-corrected, photonics-based quantum computer. My work sits at the interface of materials science, integrated photonics, and device physics. Before joining PsiQuantum, I designed and built experiments to study light–matter interactions from the nanoscale to devices. My training ranged from cosmology to condensed matter physics and took me through France, Singapore, Sweden, the UK, and the US. Alongside my doctoral work in Physics at the University of Cambridge, I consulted in freelance for clients such as BAE Systems, the British Ministry of Defence, and KAUST, delivering technology reviews, workshops, and foresight reports on emerging technologies.I have 10 peer-reviewed publications,~2800 citations, an h-index of 11. I serve on the Executive Committee of the American Physical Society (APS) FWS and on the Proposal Review Board of the Molecular Foundry (LBNL). I am an APS IMPact mentor, a two-time participant of the APS Leadership Meeting and Congressional Visits Day, and was featured by SPIE as one of the \'26 Women in Optics\' for 2026.I care deeply about scientific communication and education. In 2025, I led a Quantum Circus outreach performance for the APS Global Physics Summit. I also volunteer as a science educator at San Francisco’s Exploratorium.Outside the laboratory, I explore nature, arts, and craft in many forms: I am an amateur musician and luthier, a beekeeper, backpacker, motorcyclist, circus aerialist, and glider pilot.
