ABOUT CAMILLA BREKKE

Norsk:Jeg er beskikket direktør ved Norsk Polarinstitutt (2023-). Før dette var jeg prorektor forskning og utvikling og rektors faste stedfortreder ved UiT Norges arktiske universitet (20••••23). Jeg har fartstid som prodekan forskning ved Fakultet for naturvitenskap og teknologi (20••••21) og nestleder (20••••21) ved CIRFA som er et senter for forskningsdrevet innovasjon (SFI). Jeg er professor (2016-) med tilknytning til Institutt for fysikk og teknologi, men har fortiden permisjon fra stillingen. Min forskning dreier seg i hovedsak om satellittfjernmåling og jordobservasjon med syntetisk apertur radar (SAR) samt optisk fjernmåling av havfarge. Jeg har fokusert på arktiske anvendelser av fjernmålingen, hvor oljeforurensning på havet og sjøis har vært i fokus. Jeg har erfaring med planlegging og gjennomføring av storskala integrerte datainnsamlinger fra tokt med skip og fly og laboratoriearbeid. Jeg har mine akademiske grader fra Universitet i Oslo (Cand. Scient i 2001, PhD i 2008), og har tidligere arbeidet ved Forsvarets forskningsinstitutt (FFI) og den europeiske romfartsorganisasjonen (ESA).English:Camilla Brekke is appointed Director of the Norwegian Polar Institute (2023-). Prof. Dr. Brekke was Pro-Rector for research and development at UiT The Arctic university of Norway, Tromsø, Norway from 2021 to 2023. Brekke was Vice-Dean Research at the Faculty of Science and Technology from 2018 to 2021 and Deputy Centre Leader from 2019 to 2021 at Centre for Integrated Remote Sensing and Forecasting for Arctic Operations (CIRFA) at Department of Physics and Technology, UiT. Brekke is a full Professor since 2016. In 2009, she joined the Department of Physics and Technology, UiT as an Associate Professor. From 2002 to 2009, she was a Scientist with the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment, Kjeller, Norway. From 2001 to 2002, she was a Young Graduate Trainee with the European Space Agency, Noordwijk, The Netherlands. In 2001, she was a System Developer with Ericsson, Asker, Norway. From 2012 to 2013 (4 months) and in 2018 (4 months), she was a visiting scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA, USA. Her research is focused on synthetic aperture radar and ocean colour remote sensing for Arctic and marine applications. She received the Cand. Mag, Cand. Scient, and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway, in 1998, 2001, and 2008, respectively. She was an exchange student to National University of Singapore in 1998 (spring).
