ABOUT CAMILA SOTOMAYOR
I’m a rising senior at UNC-Chapel Hill, studying Political Science and Advertising & Public Relations at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media. As part of the first cohort earning UNC’s Political Communication Certificate, I spent my junior-year Spring semester in Washington, D.C, to gain hands-on experience at the intersection of media, politics, and public engagement. My passion for politics began in 2019 after I met Congressman John Lewis. This experience shaped my understanding of how passion can inspire action and bring about change. Since then, I’ve been drawn to the power of action. Whether through policy advocacy, mobilizing voters, shaping public discourse, or expanding access to critical resources, John Lewis\' legacy continues to inspire me. I currently work in health policy and advocacy, where I focus on improving healthcare access and ensuring that underserved communities, particularly within the Hispanic population, have the information and resources they need. On campus, I serve as Co-Director of Civic Engagement for the UNC Young Democrats, leading initiatives to empower students and increase voter participation. Looking ahead, I\'m excited to pursue a career in political communications. I\'m eager to explore roles that allow me to engage communities, foster an informed public, and drive meaningful change through strategic communication and policy advocacy.
