About Cameron Carpenter
I graduated from MSOE with a BS in Computer Engineering. I enjoy learning about computer hardware and software and have always liked the challenge of solving problems, whether technical or interpersonal. I have experience with C, C++, Java, VHDL, Python, ARM Assembly, MATLAB, and MS Office.Ever since I was a kid, I was always fascinated with computers and technology. I always wondered how when you press a key on a keyboard, it magically appears on the computer screen or how computer games were developed and could be burned onto discs. I also took networking, engineering, and computer science classes in high school. STEM has always been a strength and passion of mine, so it was an easy choice to commit to as a career. While at MSOE, I have been a part of many team projects as well as individual ones. I have practiced using the resources at my disposal, specifically when developing software and needing to reference Javadocs and other types of programming manuals. An original project of mine was to create a blackjack-style game in VHDL on our DE-10 Lite FPGA board that uses the different inputs and outputs to create an interactive game that works with the synchronized clock cycles to generate “random” cards that can be drawn. I was able to overcome the problem of generating the different clock frequencies to align with the algorithm, so the user would not get stuck within a clock cycle. Being a senator in Student Government, I have practiced communicating ideas as well as solving problems that ultimately benefit students and the entire campus. For example, within our Semester Conversion Steering Committee, I have requested input from the senate of the Student Government on what concerns they have with the upcoming academic calendar proposal and other course-related topics. I then relay back to the administrative committee so their comments can be heard and considered. I have worked on several team projects and have never been afraid to take leadership roles. In my experience, initiating discussion and verifying the responsibility of tasks for each member guarantees that the project will be complete and done successfully.
