ABOUT CAMERON SWANSON
I’m a Product and Systems Development Engineer at the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), with several years’ experience in product design for clean heat and clean energy technologies. I work closely with start-ups, innovators, and established companies developing solutions in heat pumps, thermal energy recovery, and solar, helping translate early-stage ideas into robust, manufacturable products. My approach is grounded in strong research experience in circular design, embedding sustainability, lifecycle thinking, and resource efficiency from concept through development, and supported by the application of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to manage complexity, reduce risk, and improve design decision-making in emerging technologies.Alongside this I draw on a background in advanced engineering and manufacturing, including metrology, 3D visualisation, photogrammetry, laser scanning, and Building Information Modelling (BIM). Beyond my professional role, I’m passionate about industrial heritage, creating virtual 3D reconstructions that bring together engineering, history, and digital technology.
