As a Private Duty Registered Nurse, I provided continuous, high-acuity care for ventilator-dependent and medically complex patients in the home setting—a unique and highly autonomous practice environment requiring both clinical precision and systems-level coordination. My caseload included patients across the lifespan, from infants to older adults, each presenting complex, multi-system needs.I managed ventilator and tracheostomy care, G-tube and wound VAC management, chemical debridement, and quadriplegia-related interventions. Beyond direct clinical work, I coordinated supply logistics, durable medical equipment (DME) deliveries, and interdisciplinary schedules involving physical, occupational, and speech therapists. I maintained frequent communication with physicians, caseworkers, insurers, and workers’ compensation representatives to ensure continuity and regulatory compliance.My responsibilities included organizing patient admissions and recertifications, updating plans of care and medication records, and preparing documentation for insurance submission to secure ongoing authorization for care cycles. I also facilitated a pilot program for a new external suction-based male catheter system, integrating field feedback into the company’s evaluation process.This role demanded a balance of empathy, precision, and strategic foresight—operating as both caregiver and care coordinator. It strengthened my understanding of how clinical quality, documentation, and financial integrity intersect in modern healthcare delivery.
