The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is the largest labor union in the AFL-CIO, representing over 1.6 million American workers across 46 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. AFSCME Council 31 represents over public and private sector workers, including mental health service providers, correctional workers, sanitation workers, social workers, municipal employees, and other public servants across the State of Illinois, including Cook County and the Greater Chicago Area. I assist in grievance processing and arbitration, sit first-chair in contract negotiations and labor/management meetings, and perform other labor and employment services for the Union\'s membership in and around Chicago. I also help develop and implement strategies to involve members in activities that build the local union\'s capacity to represent employees, foster recruitment and training of union stewards, help implement Council 31\'s political and legislative programs, train local members in how to effectively serve their union, and prepare leaflets, bulletins, and other informative handouts to facilitate communication between members and Council 31 and national leadership.
