About Jo Calland
Through my career as a technical content writer/developer I\'ve learned a few things that have helped me become a better writer and editor.1. Sometimes when you edit a document enough you will find pieces of information are missing - so maybe you can\'t edit enough.2. Working on a technical document from an SME is more than just checking the grammar and spelling. It\'s also about reading and understanding what the document is about so that I can make sure it is clear and makes sense to the end-user - and in the process I also learn new tools and technologies.3. When I get a response that the document \"looks fine\" after review, then I KNOW they didn\'t read it. I make mistakes, we find information that is missing - and I want feedback no matter what.(Maybe this is when offering chocolate chip cookies as a bribe helps to please review.)4. I love being asked if I know a particular tool or technology, because if I don\'t then I get to play around and learn it in order to deliver good documentation. At Microsoft I played around and learned Articulate Storyline 360 in less than a month, and spent the next 17 months learning more and more.I enjoy the field of technical documentation as it\'s always a way for me to learn while helping the end-users understand and use what they need. Photographing the web presses at HP helped me to understand the details of maintenance while staring at the parts. Finally, I always meet a deadline and I enjoy my work. If you would like know more about what I do and would like to do please reach out to me as I\'m actively looking for my next \'fun\' challenge.
