ABOUT CALEB WEGENER
My diverse background allows me to undertake complex technical projects but what makes me unique is that I can articulate and communicate the work I do to a diverse audience. I have mentored, taught, and tutored students at a sixth-grade level to students in graduate school and have worked in many multidisciplinary teams. This experience enables me to adapt to, and succeed in, any environment that my work takes me. I currently work with NOAA Fisheries on the hydraulics of fish screens and water diversion structures along the Sacramento River in California. I assess designs for consistency with NOAA Fisheries\' guidelines related to the conservation of anadromous endangered species. My engineering background is in hydrological resource management and planning, physical climatological processes, GIS and remote sensing of the environment, natural hazards mitigation, climate forecasting and modeling, and river restoration. I am motivated to help bridge the gap between publicly managed resources and the needs of people in disadvantaged communities. I want to optimize the management of ecosystems by providing renewable solutions and informing policy and management decisions. Past research involved improving sub-seasonal to annual forecasting of water levels on the earth\'s largest lake system; work which has implications for international policy and management decisions in the Great Lakes region. I also worked on water balance modeling on Mono Lake in California and taught stream restoration courses.
