Edf Energy (Epr-e) Nuclear Design Engineer, Layout Team @Edvance
City Of Bristol, GB
Deliver layout coordination in the Joint Design Organisation (JDO) supporting the Hinkley Point C new-build nuclear island project, integrating civil, piping, HVAC and electrical interfaces. Assess and respond to site requests including RFIs, field changes and non-conformances; lead technical solutions that maintain design intent while resolving multi-discipline interface issues. EDF UK Identify and resolve over 1500+ layout clashes between mechanical and structural systems, liaising with contractors (BYLOR, onsite teams) and ensuring compliance with design tolerance and build standards. Produce technical documentation (3D model updates, room completion reports, non-compliance logs) and present findings to discipline leads and contract managers, enabling prompt decision-making. Carry out surveys of installed equipment against design, flag non-compliances and coordinate corrective action paths to avoid costly rework before manufacture or construction phases. Completed a 9-month placement in France, gaining experience on site and enhancing cross-cultural collaboration and design office integration.

ABOUT CALEB HADLEY
I’m a Nuclear Design Engineer working in the Layout team on the Hinkley Point C power plant, helping complex systems from multiple disciplines come together seamlessly and safely. My work centres on problem-solving, communication and precision — coordinating mechanical, piping, steelwork, electrical and civil designs in 3D to make sure what’s built on site matches the intent on paper. I collaborate closely with contractors and on-site teams to review designs, flag risks early and find solutions that work for everyone. Before joining EDF Energy, I worked in business development with Immersive Labs, helping the company expand into new markets and secure high-value clients including OVO Energy and First Group. That experience shaped how I approach engineering: understanding stakeholders, aligning priorities and translating technical value into clear outcomes.I’m motivated by roles that sit at the intersection of technology, communication and growth — whether improving how projects are delivered or how organisations connect their capabilities with customer needs.
