ABOUT CALEB ELLIS

These views are my own, and do not reflect the views of the Mount Sinai Health System. I am a first-year MD-MPH student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. I’m also a recent graduate of Brown University, where I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Medical Anthropology. My training as an anthropologist has taught me to critically examine societal discourse concerning diseases and health inequities and how to utilize narratives of lived experiences and ethnography to present community viewpoints and needs. I have applied these anthropological insights through public health policy briefs, intervention write-ups, and academic papers critiquing societal dialogues presented in news articles and public-facing mediums. At Brown, I engaged with Anthropology and Public Health to become a Physician who uses qualitative methods to create new healthcare delivery interventions for members of disadvantaged populations. With these skills, I also want to engage in global health initiatives and research into healthcare interventions that challenge traditional forms of services. My experiences have also cultivated my desire to engage in anti-racist evaluations of medical curriculums and initiatives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the medical profession.
