About Jackie Calderone

Jackie Calderone has enjoyed a fascinating career path, working as a: presenter, funder, booking agent, educator, fundraiser, evaluator, panelist, board member, and artist. Calderone pulls from these diverse experiences to help organizations and individuals fully realize their potential to create, connect, and thrive. Calderone is the founding Director of TRANSIT ARTS, a network of artists, spaces and resources where youth, ages 12-21, are deeply engaged in leadership, multi-disciplinary arts workshops, performance and exhibit opportunities, and entrepreneurial enterprises. TRANSIT ARTS provides sanctuary and inspiration to dream accompanied by the necessary tools to realize those dreams. TRANSIT ARTS is a program of Central Community House, in partnership with a host of artists and organizations. Calderone was CAPA’s first Director of Education, the founding director of CAPACity, CAPA’s youth arts program, and was the creative force behind the Short Stop Teen Center and Third Avenue Performance Space. Her passion for community-based arts was sparked during her seven years at the Ohio Arts Council where she coordinated the Dance and Jazz Music programs. She has served on numerous National Endowment for the Arts panels and has conducted workshops for organizations which include Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, The National Performance Network, The Association of Performing Arts Presenters, Dance USA, and many more. She performed with an ensemble directed by noted choreographer John Giffin and she continues to collaborate with her husband, national touring artist, Robert Post. Calderone was honored for her civil rights contributions during the 2008 Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration and has received numerous awards including: Honored Artist Award from ComFest; Arts Freedom Award; the Arts Educator Award from the Greater Columbus Arts Council; The Ohio Alliance for Arts Education Virtuoso Award, The Columbus Foundation’s True Originals Award, and most recently, The Ohio Arts Education Association’s Distinguished Citizen for Art Education Central Region Award.
