About Calden Carroll

My post-academic career began with founding an environmental monitoring start-up based on my doctoral research. I built and led agile teams, developed our market and funding strategy and filled out the organization with stellar scientists and businesspeople who ultimately made possible our acquisition and licensing. Our successful exit led me to roles in the management and leadership of larger cross-functional and cross-organizational teams where I spearheaded new products and initiatives within global corporate environments. The teams I build have filled R&D and commercial/strategy roles from prototype to manufacturing in sensors, hardware, IoT and agtech. I have a history of leading and enabling others to improve business operations, steward environmental responsibility, and create real-world value. I am currently in consulting partnership with new start-up ventures at the academic/industrial interface as well as with state and federal agencies. I’m most passionate about mission-driven and green-oriented projects in sustainability and the food-energy-water nexus, especially when they are navigating the road out of academia/laboratory and into the market.Skilled in: leadership and management, business and product development, strategy and fundraising. Strong research professional with a Ph.D. focused in Physical Organic Chemistry/Supramolecular Chemistry from University of Oregon; business administration and management experience as a start-up founder and leader, and new venture market analysis and product development training through a National Science Foundation post-doctoral program at Stanford University/University of Oregon.
