ABOUT C. PRESTON LEWIS

A dedicated, servant-based transformational nurse leader possessing: 29 years as a registered nurse and 25 years as nurse leader. Background includes critical care (>20 years combined direct and ancillary) perioperative services, inpatient and ambulatory clinics and programs, organizational/leadership development, and ANCC credentialing. Other professional roles include undergraduate nursing facility, exam writer for Mosby, and peer reviewer for JONA, AJCC, and ANA’s American Nurse journals. Nationally certified: CCRN through ANCC (20 yrs), healthcare accreditation (CMS & Infection Control), certified fall program specialist (CFPS), and internationally credentialed as a Certified Global Nurse Consultant through CFGNS as a nurse practice environment/nurse sensitive indicator specialist. Micro credentials through AACN in COVID-19, Pulmonary & Ventilator Care. Over 12 years of service line leadership experience through medical-surgical, critical care, perioperative administration and orthopedics (including DSC responsibilities through Joint Commission for a six-time certified total hip and knee replacement programs). ANCC Magnet and Pathway to Excellence appraiser (team member and lead, 11 years experience). Served over 10 years as Magnet Program Executive Director/Director for a four-time, Magnet designated community hospital and experience as a system mentor for Pathway to Excellence (Baptist Health became the first community hospital system world wide to achieve exclusive ANCC designation w/Magnet & Pathway to Excellence credentials (July 2018), see referenced pubs). Mentoring and team outcomes for initial required documentation includes 7 of 10 submissions with zero deficiencies, proceeding straight to Pathway Nurse Survey and Magnet onsite survey. A rich, extensive history of combined organizational program oversight, leadership and co-leadership: Employee Development, Integrative Care, Acute Pain Nursing, Regulatory Affairs, Wound, Ostomy & Continence Dept, inpatient falls and pressure injury prevention programs. Author/co-author of 12 publications in national peer reviewed journals and lead/co-lead presenter for over 40 podium, poster and virtual presentations at local, state and national conferences. Publications highlight scholarly EBP and research projects optimizing the nurse practice environment, nurse retention, and patient and family centered outcomes. My calling and passion in the profession is to assure excellence in practice environments promoting exemplary engagement, retention, and patient-and-family-centered outcomes.
