Luminary was the first subscription podcast business and launched in 2019 ($100M funding raised). I was recruited to Luminary before the launch of the app, with my initial work focused on talent/production deals and supporting our marketing and technology teams. My work has included driving the launch of 40+ shows and contributing to various strategy and business model changes to adapt to changing market conditions. Project Highlights:Led eight-month negotiations on the deal with Dave Chappelle that signed in early 2020, and managed legal issues (e.g. music clearances, talent issues) during the podcast’s production.Negotiated talent and production agreements with renowned artists and production companies (e.g. Trevor Noah, Lena Dunham, Roxane Gay, Alex Gibney, Guy Raz, et al.).Advocated for pivot from a subscription model to a hybrid model that provided subscribers with ad-free early access to content and bonus episodes unavailable to ad-supported listeners, leading to the new model launch in 2022. Negotiated deals with partners to enable ad sales, and introduced a revenue-sharing model with podcasters that led to a significant increase in ARR.Guided strategy and execution for efforts to improve cash flow. Renegotiated contracts with talent and vendors, partnered with a finance consultant to prioritize accounts payable, and conducted cash calls to investors.
