WORK HISTORY
Graduate Research Fellow (Howard Lab) @University Of Iowa Roy J. And Lucille A. Carver College Of Medicine
Iowa City, IA, US
Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) is a rare pediatric high grade glioma with less than 400 cases in the US per year. The median survival is under a year, fewer than 1 in 10 alive at two years, and research has faced decades of failed clinical trials. My work as an ACS post-baccalaureate research fellow in the Howard Lab focuses on why these tumors often resist radiation as opposed to other high grade gliomas, focusing on redox metabolism and the thioredoxin/glutathione systems as potential therapeutic target(s).Funding support received by the Cancer Research Training (CRT) Post Baccalaureate Grant #CRT POST-BACC-25•••••••01-PBACC from the American Cancer Society (ACS).Rotations completed in the labs of Dr. Michelle Howard, PhD, Dr. David Gordon MD, PhD, & Dr. Douglas Spitz Ph.D.

ABOUT BOGDAN E.
I attended North Park University for my undergraduate studies and earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree with a double major in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Chemistry in May 2025.My future goal is to become a physician scientist with a focus on investigating novel therapeutic strategies for etiologically complex diseases such as cancer. I hope to understand my patients on both a personal level and a molecular level while treating them. As I continue in my education, I’m excited about the utilization of synthetic biology toolkits and deep learning models such as AlphaFold in advancing the specificity of targeted treatments within the context of disease.
