About Busch Gerry
I am a board-certified psychiatrist with subspecialty training and certification in Addiction Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry, with additional public health training (MPH) and a long-standing commitment to medical education, clinical quality, and systems-level improvement. I currently serve as an Assistant Professor (Department of Psychiatry) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and as faculty with Child and Family Behavioral Health Services at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaiʻi. My recent roles have included Director of Medical Education and Patient Care in a high-acuity psychiatric emergency department, Program Director for Addiction Psychiatry training, and Site Director for forensic residency training. Across three decades of clinical work and leadership, I have focused on strengthening care for patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric illness, improving safety and quality in emergency settings, and building practical curricula that help clinicians deliver evidence-informed treatment. I have also contributed to professional organizations and policy-oriented efforts, including work related to addiction, gambling disorder disparities, and emerging topics in psychiatry. I welcome collaboration in addiction and dual-disorder care, psychiatric education, forensic psychiatry training, and public health approaches to substance use prevention and treatment. I am currently involved in projects to promote prevention literacy for substance use disorders and epidemiologically-driven design for emergency psychiatric management and training.
