ABOUT DAVID BARTON
After graduating from BYU, I took a job with the Utah Attorney General. I tried my first case two days after passing the bar - and lost. Undeterred, the AG\'s office gave me many more opportunities to hone my trial skills and learn to navigate a courtroom.Then a friend hired me at Johnson & Hatch in Salt Lake City where I learned to love Labor and Employment Law. We defended one of the earliest cases to arise under the Americans with Disabilities Act and I was hooked; I had found my area of expertise. Two years later, a Quarles & Brady headhunter convinced me to move my family to Phoenix, Arizona where I was mentored by an elite group of litigators and labor and employment lawyers, including Bill Shattuck, John Pettibone, and Charlie Herf. I spent seventeen years at Quarles, advancing to become an equity partner. In 2012, my partner, Christine Burns and I founded BurnsBarton PLC - a labor and employment boutique with the goal of making litigation so efficient that employers could take a case to trial - rather than settle. We have been fortunate to work with some amazing lawyers at BurnsBarton, including Arizona Supreme Court Justice Katherine Hackett King. Our work with, and service to, the District Court of Arizona helped us come to know many of the judges who decide employment cases in this great state. And our work in the courtroom gave us a significant advantage over other labor and employment lawyers because we provide trial-tested advice.In 2025 we made the decision to combine our firm with Fennemore, a forward-looking, well-managed firm that could provide a platform for further growth - particularly in the area of artificial intelligence. It\'s been a wonderful decision that offers our team, and our clients, seemingly unlimited opportunities.I\'m proud of how my career has developed, but my real joy in life comes from my four children, eleven grandchildren and wife of 39 years. She is my best friend and constant companion; she literally prayed me into a career in the law, and for that, I will be forever grateful.
