About John Burke
Distinguished Research Professor and Head of UGA Plant Biology. We use comparative genomic and evolutionary genetic approaches to understand the evolution of crop plants. We\'re particularly interested in the responses of plants to stressful environments, but. We also maintain an interest in floral developmental evolution. On this front, we\'re working to understand the origin of the iconic capitulum inflorescence (i.e, flowering head) of species within the sunflower family (Asteraceae) – the world\'s largest and most evolutionarily successful family of flowering plants.
