About Brian Tyler Nugent

In my youth I made home movies with friends. I knew that when I \'grew up\' I wanted to make real motion pictures. By the time I turned twenty, while attending film school, I realized that to make the kinds of movies that I wanted to make, I needed to build a business career that would enable me to access enough capital to do just that. I parallel tracked my creative pursuits in independent film with a career in tech; which, ultimately led to the launch of my first asset management firm, Sway, focused on backing category leading technology founders. With the help of a childhood friend, I also launched Sobey Road Entertainment, a Hollywood based production company, named after the street that bisected our childhood homes. Eventually, I figured out how to make technology investing and motion picture storytelling work together in beautiful harmony. I have been one of the few that have managed to straddle the worlds of tech and Hollywood, making tech businesses and films w/ world-class business builders and storytellers. We are finally seeing these worlds mash together with the advent of AI-aided filmmaking, big tech companies owning film studios & streamers, video game publishers that are making films, music artists launching startups, and tech billionaires getting into the film studio game. We are now living in a kaleidoscope of art, innovation & cultural evolution. Being at the intersection of all of it is invigorating. What excites me is finding the next great idea for a film or a technology business. I like working with missionaries that are so passionate about their vision that it is infectious and inspiring. My goal is always to work with the brightest minds and the most talented people in their craft. Together, we can quite literally change the world. In this same vein, we are trying to do our part in making the world a better place through the efforts of our family’s foundation, The Tyler Foundation; as well as through Sway Capital\'s impact investing shingle, Sway Impact (swaycapital.com/impact). Both of these are geared at solving humanity’s greatest challenges, including a drive to stem the tide of climate change, inspire regional peace and improve the lives of less fortunate humans and many other beautiful (but less judgemental) creatures around the world.When it’s all said and done, being able to enjoy the journey and have loads of fun with people that you trust, admire and respect along the way, make it a whistle-to-work existence that I don’t see ending anytime soon.
