ABOUT BRYONY TAYLOR

I have worked at CABI since 2006 and have a deep understanding of the key issues relating to agricultural and environmental sustainability globally, with specific focus on improving approaches to pest management (which includes both native and invasive pests) in the face of changing climatic, political and technical contexts. Through my work I have developed, managed and overseen (up to the head of sub-theme and/or project executive level) multiple projects globally, facilitating the uptake of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches. There are many barriers to uptake of these approaches, and my work has focussed on both improving the availability of lower risk alternatives for pest management as well as improving the quality and availability of information available for decision making, to help either reduce pesticide use or transition to the use of bioprotection products. My work to improve the availability of lower risk pest management solutions has focussed on the development, mass production, formulation, application and registration of fungal biopesticides. As well as undertaking surveys for and testing the efficacy of insect and mite classical biological control agents. At the farmer level, I have led projects aiming to improve decision making that have focussed on providing local, contextual information to improve both the timing of pest management interventions (to reduce overuse of pesticides) and the confidence in the use of bioprotection products. At the policy/donor level I have led projects that are working towards providing macro level information on the economic impacts of pest and diseases (and abiotic factors), as well as higher resolution information to inform decisions relating to biosecurity. More recently I have been using my global experience and breadth of knowledge in diverse subject areas to work towards building new strategic offerings and business areas within CABI.
