ABOUT BRYN GRAY

Bryn is a partner at McCarthy Tetrault LLP and has a broad advocacy and advisory practice, with a particular focus on corporate/commercial disputes and Aboriginal law. He has significant experience working on complex corporate/commercial litigation matters, including breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation claims, shareholder disputes, securities class actions, and hostile takeovers. He has also worked on environmental and Aboriginal law litigation relating to energy and infrastructure projects. Bryn has extensive expertise in Aboriginal law and is recognized as a leading lawyer in this area by Chambers Canada, Lexpert, and Legal 500. He has worked on a broad range of Aboriginal law and policy issues both in private practice and government. He has acted as counsel in Aboriginal rights and duty to consult litigation and regularly advises clients on relationship-building, consultation and accommodation, and negotiations with Aboriginal groups for a variety of resource development, energy, and infrastructure projects. He has also previously served as a policy and legal advisor to a former Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada and as a Ministerial Special Representative for Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada on consultation and accommodation. In this capacity, he led a national engagement with Aboriginal groups, industry, and other affected stakeholders and authored a detailed report to the Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada on how the federal government can improve its approach to the duty to consult. Bryn has appeared as counsel before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada, and all levels of court in Ontario. He has also appeared before several administrative tribunals including the Environmental Review Tribunal, the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board, and the Ontario Municipal Board.
