About Bryan Day
NAVY NUCLEAR TRAINED ELECTRIANS MATE I was a former nuclear operator/staff instructor at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) in South Carolina. At my previous position I trained/certified students and prospective staff instructors to safely and reliably operate a reactor/steam plant onboard a moored training ship (MTS 635/626/701/711). Prior to transferring to NPTU I was stationed on the George H.W. Bush CVN-77 for a little over 4 years. Onboard the George H.W. Bush I mainly stood watch as the Load Dispatcher which is the Naval equivalent of balancing authority and transmission operator for a 72 megawatt electrical distribution system for an aircraft carrier. Some other qualifications and jobs I have held on the George H.W. Bush include work center supervisor for reactor electrical, shutdown reactor operator, propulsion/auxiliary electrician, switchgear operator, propulsion plant drill team, reactor electrical training petty officer, and various certifications for damage control/first aid/CPR. The Navy has provided me the opportunity to grow as a leader and team player since I have had to work with so many people from different cultures and backgrounds. I have completed my bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology from Thomas Edison State University and also obtained a level 1 Infrared thermography certification, NFPA 70e certification, Certified Data Centre Technician Professional (CDCTP), CPR/First aid certification, and mobile elevated platform certification. Post navy I started working with various data centers and I am currently a Data Center Manager for Stack Infrastructure. I am currently responsible for critical operations for 72 MW of critical IT load at NVA02D/E in Manassas, VA. I manage a team of data center technicians split between day shift and night shift. Day to day critical operations include: directing/managing daily work, generating/reviewing SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, ERPs, and APs, managing preventative maintenance, managing corrective maintenance, managing CMMS, managing vendors, conducting drills in a critical environment, over seeing critical switching operations for the electrical/mechanical infrastructure, commissioning activities, operating within SLAs, collaboration with other departments and clients.
