ABOUT BRYAN GARTON

Bryan Garton serves as the Senior Associate Dean and Director of Academic Programs for the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) and is a professor of Agricultural Education. He provides leadership for the academic and student affairs for a college of 3,200+ students, including oversite of the degree programs and curricula, student access and success, international experiences, scholarships, as well as career development and success. He served as the chair of the Academic Programs Section of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities and chair of the Agriculture Innovative Digital Education Alliance, a national consortium of universities.Garton has been recognized by the University of Missouri and nationally for his scholarship in teaching and research. He was recognized as the college’s outstanding teacher and outstanding advisor and is a member of the CAFNR Teaching Academy. At the University level, he received the Provost’s Outstanding Junior Faculty Teacher and the William T. Kemper Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching. He is a fellow in the American Association for Agricultural Education the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Academic Leadership Development Program, and the Food Systems Leadership Institute (FSLI). In 2019 he was recognized as the distinguished alumnus of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University. The University of Missouri Alumni Association recognized him with a faculty award in 2020.His research has investigated the influence of learning styles on academic achievement, and factors contributing to the retention, academic performance, and graduation of students in higher education. He has authored 114 peer reviewed journal articles and conference papers. His research has been recognized nine-times by the Journal of Agricultural Education and the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture Journal. He has secured $1.7 million in extramural funding in support of the professional development of educators, student programs, and curriculum enhancements.Garton received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Missouri and his doctorate from The Ohio State University.
