About Bryan Fearey

Dr. Bryan Fearey has 35+ years of high-level expertise working in the national security and nuclear arena - while at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and for the Department of Defense (DoD). He continues to work in this arena at TechSource, Inc.His early career focused on condensed-matter physics, laser spectroscopy, and ultrasensitive detection—and the application of such scientific technologies to critical national security missions. He has served in a variety of roles including Director of LANL\'s National Security [Policy] Office, Senior National Security Science Advisor, Program Manager, Technical Staff Member, and from \'99-\'01 the DoD’s Official U.S. Science Advisor for START and INF Treaty Negotiations in Geneva.Beginning in April 2016, he again served at the Pentagon as the Senior Science & Policy Advisor in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense Policy (OUSD(P)) for the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Policy for Nuclear and Missile Defense (DASD(NMD)—focused on nuclear and extended deterrence, strategic stability, and arms control issues. As part of his responsibilities, he directly supported the writing and development of the 2018 Nuclear Posture Review (NPR)(he has been engaged in ALL of the NPRs, including the 2022 version). Dr. Fearey has received numerous awards including the highest non-career DoD award for “Exceptional Public Service,” two LANL Distinguished Performance Awards and four NNSA Awards of Excellence. He graduated, as a direct advisor, several PhD and Masters students - mentored numerous Postdocs, graduate research students (PhD, MS, and BS), a variety of staff, and many undergraduates.

   Addressing national security policy, nuclear weapons, arms control and nonproliferation, and counterproliferation/counterterrorism issues. Among other activities, engaged in the “Weapons Knowledge Preservation and Transfer (WKPT)\" program, providing a National Security Policy overview - from the NSS to the NDS to the NPR to the execution of work critical to ensuring the credibility of the U.S. nuclear deterrent. Discussions provide a foundation of US national security, the role of nuclear deterrence and lays out today\'s threats from both major and small theat nations.
