About Bruce Moyer

Bruce Moyer is a Corporate Fellow at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, having led the Chemical Separations Group for 33 years. Overall, his career has spanned 46 years in chemical sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, specializing in both fundamental and applied aspects of separation science and technology with focus on solvent extraction and ion exchange. He received his BS degree summa cum laude in chemistry from Duke University in 1974 and his PhD in inorganic chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1979. Dr. Moyer has provided leadership for the Diversifying Supply focus area of the Critical Materials Institute, a USDOE Energy Innovation Hub led by Ames Lab and the Sigma Team for Minor Actinide Separations for the Fuel Cycle Research and Development program of the US Department of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy. He also provides leadership and support for the chemistry of the cesium removal from the tank waste at Savannah River Site. Dr. Moyer also serves as Co-editor of the journal Solvent Extraction and Ion Exchange and the book series Ion Exchange and Solvent Extraction. Awards: 2025 Carl Hanson Award for career achievement in the field of solvent extraction; 2024 American Chemical Society Heroes Award; 2019 Glenn T. Seaborg Award in Actinide Separations; 2019 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; 2017 R&D 100 Award for the Ageless Aluminum Revolution; 2013 Secretary of Energy\'s Award, Salt Waste Disposal Technologies Team; 2011 Council of Chemical Research Collaboration Award, Development and Implementation of High-Level Salt-Waste Processing Technology; 2004 IR-100 Award, Highly Selective, Regenerable Perchlorate Treatment System; UT-Battelle Technical Achievement Award, Contributions to the Development of Novel Resin Regeneration Techniques; Lockheed Martin Research Corporation Achievement awards—Leadership Award, Development Award (novel bifunctional anion exchange resin), and Development Award (novel process for cesium separation from waste). In 2008, Dr. Moyer served as the Technical Chair of the 2008 Internat. Solvent Extraction Conf.(ISEC \'08) and Editor-in-Chief of the proceedings, and in 2011 he served as member of the Advisory Committee, Program Chair for Nuclear Separations, and co-Editor of the Proceedings of ISEC 2011.
