ABOUT BRIAN PATTERSON
I am a Partner with Urban Systems, one of Canada\'s leading integrated professional practices, and was recently on the Board of Directors of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP). I was awarded the 2019 APBP Professional of the Year (Private Sector) Award. I coordinate and steward Urban Systems\' Active Transportation Planning practice across Canada and work with a fantastic, talented, and inter-disciplinary team of certified planners, engineers, landscape architects, communications professionals, GIS specialist and urban designers. I specialize in pedestrian planning, bicycle planning and design, multi-modal transportation planning, and traffic calming. I have been involved in over 80 multi-modal transportation plans as well as bicycle and pedestrian plans, studies and designs for communities of all sizes across Canada, including Vancouver, Victoria, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Windsor, Kingston, Lethbridge, Cochrane, Kamloops, and Kelowna. I have also worked extensively on a number of cycling and pedestrian studies for regional governments and agencies, including TransLink, the Capital Regional District, and the Province of British Columbia. I am particularly interested in bicycle facility design and recently led the development and delivery of a Bicycle Facilities Design Course for practicing professionals (planners, engineers, landscape architects, and others) through Canada. I have co-taught the course to over 800 professionals in Halifax, Ottawa, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, and Edmonton, among other cities. I am also an instructor with Simon Fraser University\'s Next Generation Transportation Certificate Program and have taught at the University of British Columbia. I am a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and Planning Institute of British Columbia.
