Students of all abilities and backgrounds deserve access to high quality, inclusive educational opportunities led by empowered and effective teachers. We know that teachers of students with disabilities and English learners are often one of a few in their schools, lack access to adequate support and development opportunities, and as a result, experience high rates of burnout. The Diverse Learners Cooperative exists to connect teachers to relevant professional growth experiences, resources, and networks that improve outcomes for diverse learners and increase teacher retention.As founder and executive director, Brooke leads the team effort to connect diverse learner teachers to support they need to be successful. This work includes partnerships with schools, systems, and organizations to identify and implement high leverage opportunities to increase educational access for students with disabilities and multilingual learners. It also includes bringing teachers and leaders together to learn and develop solutions that move the needle for diverse learners across classrooms. The DLC has grown to serve over 300 teachers representing more than 7500 students each year. Brooke views her role as an advocate in the broader community for the significance of all students within our schools.

All children can learn. We partner with teachers and leaders to make sure they do. The Diverse Learners Cooperative is a nonprofit organization that connects teachers and leaders with professional learning, resources, and networks that improve outcomes for diverse learners and increase teacher retention. Through DLC Learning Communities, we establish spaces for collaborative learning. We convene educators to learn and develop new ideas, afford opportunities to take an idea, practice it, and bring it back to the group. Through these Learning Communities, teachers and leaders develop ideas and processes for solving complex challenges that are inevitable when building inclusive classrooms and schools. We learn together faster and do better when we have space, resources, and people to drive us forward. Through DLC School and System Supports, we help leaders improve school systems that enable diverse learners and their teachers to thrive. We partner with schools, networks or districts to collaboratively identify opportunities that are highest leverage in improving diverse learner outcomes - with a specific focus on educator support and effectiveness. We start partnerships with understanding the needs of the system and the people within it, then align on goals that would improve student and teacher access. We support implementation of these goals through coaching, training, PLC facilitation, resource development, or technical assistance. Schools need and value the eyes of a partner that can spot blindspots in access for diverse learners and then are open to the support they need to fill those gaps or establish new ways. Finally, we share our work, learnings, and new ideas to impact diverse learners outside of our immediate influence. We’re developing new ways of doing this work, but we’re also able to learn so much from the schools and teams we serve. We capture these learning in new resources, tools, templates that educators can use right away.
