Laboratory Support Manager @Abcam

I joined Abcam in November 2022 to build and manage the new Laboratory Support team within the Workplace/Facilities department in Waltham. The Laboratory Support team is responsible for an array of ongoing tasks, including autoclave and drying oven sterilization of labwares, coordination of equipment repairs and routine maintenance visits, waste management, consumables and PPE inventory management, buffer preparation and more. The responsibilities of the Laboratory Support Manager include the following: Team management - Establish procedures and SOPs for all routine tasks of the Laboratory Support team - Hire and train new personnel as needed to support site expansion - Flex staff scheduling as needed in the event of time critical work - Teach basic laboratory techniques to staff including aseptic technique, liquid handling, pipetting, chemical handling and buffer preparation Knowledge of laboratory operations - Maintain a clear understanding of niche PPE requirements in specific lab areas on site - Liaise with all lab teams and researchers to clearly understand and communicate new work requests - Maintain generalist knowledge of lab equipment and vendors to assist with troubleshooting on site, vendor repairs and PMs Equipment management - Work closely with the Facilities Engineer to assess space, electrical and CO2 requirements for new equipment installations and carry out equipment moves as needed - Work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure all equipment on site is documented and asset tagged - Assist Quality Assurance during audits as the subject matter expert on equipment calibration status - Coordinate all repairs and calibration activities for all on site equipment and delegate to staff Environmental Health & Safety - Licensed Industrial Grade 1 & 2 Wastewater Operator - Member of the Spill Response Team for the site; specialized HAZWOPER training - Work closely with EHS team to ensure compliance of all lab teams on site
