About Brooke Hunsicker
Hello! I\'m Brooke Hunsicker Iām an alum from the University of Georgia, where I graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in microbiology and a minor in public health. 𩺠My time working as a medical assistant and my coursework in microbiology has guided my passions for medicine, whole-person care, and preventative healthcare and will continue to guide me in the practice of medicine. Today I am working as a medical assistant with Dermatology Specialists of Georgia. My time with my patients has refined my passion for healthcare and has developed me as a caregiver, and the experiences will continue to guide me as I practice medicine. When I am not in the library, I love to be in the outdoors. I am usually in the greenhouse, going for hikes, exploring waterfalls, and listening to live music. Thank you for reading about me! Feel free to message me about any questions, thoughts, or recommendations!
Experience
Medical Assistant

May 2024 ā Present Ā· GA, US
Responsibilities include rooming patients, charting, scribing, tracking skin cancers and their treatments, scheduling surgeries, training new medical assistants, and assisting the physician and PA-C during general dermatology appointments as well as during Mohs surgeries, excisions, biopsies, and surgical closures such as skin grafts, skin substitutes, bolster closures, and interpolation flaps. I\'ve honed my skills in administering injections, suture removals, the understanding of common and not so common skin conditions, and in assisting with punch/shave/snip biopsies. A crucial part of my role involves telling patients pathology, biopsy, culture, and blood work results and ensuring they understand treatment plans for biopsy-proven skin cancers, precancerous lesions, autoimmune disorders, and other conditions that create dermatological changes. I am also responsible for scheduling and coordinating treatment plans. Other duties include RX refills, assisting in preventative skin cancer screenings, sending tissue samples to lab, ordering labs, biologic medication coordination, working with pharmacies to obtain medication prior authorizations, collaborating with outside physicians for surgical closures and referrals, wound care, surgical after care, drawing up medications such as lidocaine and intralesional kenalog, surgical procedure set up, surgical tool processing, managing mohs cases and their tissue stages, and educating patients on skin cancer prevention
