ABOUT BRODY HUK
I have been a precision metal worker since 2014. I began my career in tool and die working with manual and CNC machines to machine, fit, assemble and prove out complex progressive and hand transfer dies in an ISO 9001 facility. here I learned the theory and application behind working to increasingly tight tolerances as well as the fundamentals of metal cutting, fixturing and industrial repair.From there I spent a short time at a pump shop working on pump components to support municipal waste water facilities. Here I operated a vertical boring mill, lathe and mill. It was here I learned with the proper planning and attitude I had the confidence to produce any part on any machine in the standard machine shop. Finally, I moved to my current role as lead programmer at a prototype/short run production CNC jobbing shop. Here I found my love for CAD/CAM software and have been constantly focusing on improving my skills to refine machining processes further. I do process planning, programming, tool selection, fixture and tool design and integration, set up and operation of 3 vertical milling machines with 4th axis capabilities. One of my favourite parts about my current role is training apprentices and working with seasoned machinist to improve our entire process and workflow for continued success across our shop. I have achieved much as a student machinist, First winning the Ethel Gardener Scholarship though The Centre For Skills Development and Training. This scholarship was given the the student with the highest grade point average. I most recently competed in the 2019 Ontario Skills Olympics CAD/CAM competition and won. In this contest we were given complex engineering drawings and tasked with creating a solid model and toolpathing to generate machine tool language that would machine that part complete. I am very proud of my accomplishments and cannot wait for what the future brings.
