It will deliver a new high-speed rail network linking London and Birmingham, transforming journey times, network capacity, and regional connectivity.The programme includes the construction of over 140 miles (225 km) of new high-speed track and major civil engineering works such as viaducts, tunnels, and cuttings. Once operational, HS2 will operate trains at speeds of up to 225 mph (360 km/h), significantly reducing travel times between major cities while freeing up capacity on the existing rail network.HS2 is a key component of the UK Government’s levelling-up strategy, expected to create jobs, support apprenticeships, and drive long-term growth across the country. The programme is underpinned by sustainability commitments, with a focus on low-carbon delivery, environmental protection, and community engagement.
