We know what we are but know not what we may be.\"- Hamlet I worked as an actress in New York City until September 11, 2001, at which time I decided to devote my career to public service. In the years that followed, I served in leadership roles in government, including Deputy Chief of Staff for the Governor of Maryland, Director of Partnerships and Program Development for the Maryland Department of Labor, and Chief of Staff for the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation. As a rare disease patient living with primary lymphedema for over three decades, I shifted my career in recent years to focus on empowering patients to be both participants and partners in the development of policies and innovations that impact their lives. I enjoyed working as EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases Senior Director of Communications and Marketing for four and a half years, leading the creation and execution of advocacy communication strategies to achieve the Foundation’s federal and state policy and legislative goals. As a long-time advocate on behalf of the lymphedema community, I was honored to receive the Outstanding Advocacy Award from the Lymphatic Education & Research Network. For the last eight years, I have shared “advice, comfort, and positive thinking” on my blog, lymphedemadiary.com. I am now privileged to serve as NephCure for Rare Kidney Disease Executive Director of Strategic Relations where I lead the strategy and oversight of the organization’s government advocacy programs, physician education and engagement initiatives, and industry relations efforts. I now live in Billings, Montana with my husband and two very spoiled cats.
