About Brittany Sayles
I have a strong desire to leave a legacy as a national leader in policy reform by developing innovative solutions to complex issues surrounding urban education. I’ve demonstrated this commitment through my experience and education and how I spend my free time. In my current role, I successfully designed and implemented the districts first ever middle school alternative education program called CARE (Character and Restorative Education) that operates as a Small Learning Community (SLC) consisting of students who have not excelled in large classroom settings. We saw a 50% decrease in behavior infractions among the student population and received the Program of the Year Award by the Michigan Alternative Education Organization. Previously, as a Middle School Teacher I collaborated with the School Improvement Team to design strategies to improve academic achievement. In a few short years, we improved from the 8th to 53rd percentile in academic achievement and received recognition from the State of Michigan Department of Education as a Michigan Reward School for being in the top five percent of school growth in the State. I attribute much of my success to my ability to analyze data to inform strategic plans. I have effectively demonstrated my ability to develop and execute plans with limited resources under strict timelines. I am also passionate about ensuring that all students have access to quality public education and have dedicated my career, time, and energy to this cause. My short-term career goal is to secure a position outside of the classroom with an organization that aligns with my personal and professional values. My educational background coupled with the success I demonstrated in my career allows me to add value in virtually any educational setting. My long-term goal is to open a school in Detroit in order to create the most impact. In the meantime, I look forward to connecting with likeminded professionals.
