About Brittany Bustillos

Hello, my name is Brittany Bustillos and I am currently a student at the University of Mississippi majoring in Public Policy Leadership with a minor in International Studies. I expect to graduate in the spring of 2025. Since the spring of 2023, I have been a senator of the Associated Student Body. During my time as a senator, I have been able to work within the Inclusion and Cross Cultural Engagement and Housing committees. Within these committees, I have worked on projects to help advocate for all students of the University. This year I served as Vice-Chair for the Committee on Housing and was able to pass 3 pieces of legislation to help students have better experiences during their time at the University. I have also worked at Buff City Soap Oxford since the fall of 2022 and currently am the Manager. Working here has allowed me to grow my experience in sales as well as teamwork. I also currently serve as the Phi Mu parliamentarian which allows me to advise the executive committee on proper parliamentary procedure as well as maintaining the bylaws up to date. For the future, I hope to use my skills from the Trent Lott Institute in the public policy realm. My leadership and public policy knowledge will allow me to work for some parts of the government properly. I am also bilingual with a native background in Spanish which would help me be of help to the Hispanic community.

   Teach For America

   May 2025 — Present

   Engaged in an eight week Pre-Service training and completed over 100 hours of coursework and seminars in instructional planning, classroom management, learning theory, literacy, and diversity. Created plans for instructional design and an inclusive learning environment informed by knowledge of child development, trauma-informed practice, and social emotional learning. Built awareness and skill in relationship-building, self-awareness, and systems thinking as the foundation for effective teaching practice. Participated in Summer Student Teaching Practicum and supported students receiving intense instruction on the skills needed in core academic areas for their new grade level.
