ABOUT SHANE BRIGGS

I have a strong background in emergency management, capability development, business continuity, leadership, strategy, and influence. My skills are backed up by a proven record of increasing capability, building capacity, developing evidence-based programmes and excellence in delivery. My experience spans across strategy and operations. I led one New Zealand\'s Civil Defence Emergency Management Group to achieve their highest result in their external monitoring and evaluation. I played a critical role in expanding an organisation from delivering a handful of courses to training 1,500+ students per annum. I have contributed to national programmes as a member of the CIMS 3rd Edition Steering Group, National Security System Training Development Group, National Exercise Programme Planning and Coordination Team, Integrated Training Framework Steering Committee, Capability Development Advisory Group, Emergency Management Information Management System User Group, Targeted Review of Qualifications Governance Group, NZ Response Team Steering Committee and the USAR Steering Group. I am a member of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM). My strategic and management approach is based on sound knowledge which comes from years of operational experience. I have been a CDEM Group Controller, manager and team leader for several volunteer emergency response teams and a volunteer firefighter. I have many years’ experience in local, regional and national coordination of multi-agency emergencies as well as incident level response to flooding, swift water rescue, rope rescue, and USAR operations. I have numerous national qualifications and endorsements. I received citations from both New Zealand and Australia and have been awarded a Local Heroes award for services to the community. When I\'m not involved in emergency management, I spend time training for ultra marathon trail runs and enhancing my photography skills.
