ABOUT BRIAN LUPISH

I am a Bioengineering PhD with a passion for bridging the gap between the technical and business worlds. I work on biotechnologies with strong value propositions and practical industrial applications. I also help host biotech networking events in Los Angeles, and I have experience with consulting projects focused on market entry analysis for new medical technologies. As a doctoral researcher at University of California Riverside, I developed industrially relevant fungi strains that address unmet market and industry needs. I utilized genome-wide CRISPR screens to generate Yarrowia lipolytica strains with reduced filament formation to facilitate bioreactor growth when scaling up. I also engineered Yarrowia lipolytica strains with improved hydrocarbon catabolism, with potential use in environmental remediation projects. These projects are indicative of practical difficulties that I specialize in resolving. While at the University of Pittsburgh, I gained firsthand experience with the medical product development process with my Masters capstone project. My team and I observed physicians at their practices and conceptualized a wearable physical therapy monitor. We developed a prototype for the monitor, along with an FDA approval pathway, reimbursement strategy, and clinical trial design. I thus developed familiarity with the regulation and commercialization process for medical technologies, which I now incorporate into current project approaches.Over the last decade, I have been actively involved with outreach and networking in the biotech communities in both Pittsburgh and Los Angeles. I have been an associate and team leader in Biotech Connection Los Angeles (BCLA) for the last six years, where I helped plan, organize, and execute over twenty biotechnology networking events in Los Angeles. I also work on outreach to new sponsors and partners for our events.I bring experience in integrating technical knowledge with business applications through my consulting experience. As a consultant and project lead at Fourth River Solutions, I worked on three projects focused on market entry analysis for medical technologies developed at the University of Pittsburgh. I was also a founding member of the BCLA consulting team, which continues to engage in projects with companies in Los Angeles.I am always looking for compelling opportunities at the intersection of biotechnology and business. Please reach out with any questions or inquiries.
