As Equipment Room Manager for the LACC Cinema & TV Department, I oversee the daily operations of the equipment room, supporting students in hands-on film and television production. In addition to gear management and maintenance, I’ve taken on department-wide initiatives to modernize workflows, digitize resources, and build systems that improve student access, accountability, and learning.Key Responsibilities & Achievements:• Manage day-to-day operations of the equipment room, including checkouts, returns, maintenance, and repair of professional cameras, lighting, grip, and audio gear.• Inventoried and cataloged over individual equipment assets — the first complete asset inventory in the department’s history.• Implemented a modern, digital checkout and tracking system using Shelf.nu, improving efficiency, transparency, and accountability.• Revived the department’s defunct script library (inactive since 2004) by cataloging the full collection and building an online resource for student access and script checkouts.• Created a searchable digital script index for students to study real-world screenplays, production drafts, and revisions.• Initiated outreach to studios, writers, and vendors to acquire script and equipment donations, expanding student resources at no cost.• Developed and documented internal SOPs and workflows for gear handling, checkouts, and loss/damage prevention.• Provided technical support and training to students using industry-standard production tools.• Collaborated with faculty to ensure gear access aligns with course objectives and production timelines.• Supervised and mentored student workers, teaching best practices for equipment care and set etiquette.• Advocated for scalable, open-source tools to reduce cost and improve system sustainability.
