About Brian Freedman

Mr. Brian Freedman has earned his Masters of Science in Information Systems and has over 25 years working in IT and Information Assurance. Mr. Freedman leverages deep project management and technical experience in order to lead key elements to several Health-Information Technology (IT), Privacy and Security initiatives. Mr. Freedman has also worked on several in-depth security risk assessments.Mr. Freedman has hands-on experience with both the public and private sector healthcare networks and systems: He has worked at one of South Carolina’s largest independent physicians practice, Palmetto Primary Care Physicians, as its CIO and Information Technology Director. Additionally, he served as the HIPAA Compliance Officer and managed a team of IT specialists in support of electronic medical records and practice management systems. Mr. Freedman was also the Technical Services Lead on US Navy Medicine Enterprise Services Operations Center project supporting a mix of 80 hospitals and clinics worldwide with over users. He has co-authored a book on PCI Compliance and is the Technical Editor of a handbook on IT Regulatory and Standards Compliance. In addition, Mr. Freedman is an Adjunct Instructor for the Department of Network Systems Management at a local Technical College where he teaches classes in Information Systems, Networking, and Information Assurance. He holds some of the leading industry certifications such as the CISSP, CISA, PMP, and is a Certified HIPAA Compliance Officer (CHCO). In the past he has obtained certifications from Microsoft, VMWare, Citrix, and Cisco. He has fulfilled key volunteer leadership positions with in the Healthcare Industry.

   Responsible for the planning, development, and oversight of technology to be used within Security Risk Solutions and its clients.• Supporting the State of West Virginia Office of Technology Chief Information Security Officer and team to develop a statewide cybersecurity framework, create a process for all state agencies to perform a cyber risk assessment, and assisting with implementing a Governance, Risk, and Compliance application.• Working with The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Immunization Gateway project augmenting the project\'s IT Security team. Assisting project team to help the Immunization Gateway application to obtain an Authorization to Operate (ATO). To support the CDC ATO process, have performed NIST 800-53, Revision 4 security controls review, external penetration tests, development of necessary procedures, and other documentation as required.• Performed Information Assurance Vulnerability and Penetration tests for various customers assessing web applications and networks using tools such as Kali Linux, Tenable Nessus Professional, OWASP ZAP (Zed Attack Proxy), and Burp Suite Professional.
