About Briana Thrift
As a data scientist-turned-product manager, my work brings together what algorithms do well with what humans do best. The goal is to create products that enhance the equitable delivery of patient care. With a background in epidemiology and biostatistics, I\'ve been working in the realm of data and public health for about 10 years. Starting as an epidemiologist in HIV/AIDs research, I lived and worked in rural Uganda to research the intersection of HIV transmission, tuberculosis, intimate-partner violence and stigma. Following graduate school, I shifted my focus to data analytics and statistical modeling, where I concentrated mainly on the early COVID-19 pandemic emergency response efforts. Throughout my career, I have used data and storytelling techniques to highlight information on underlying issues, uncover the blind spots of health disparities, and advise evidence-based change. As a social activist, centering the narratives of marginalized communities has and will always be at the forefront of my career. To move the needle forward here at Mayo Clinic, I lead technical product teams that use data, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and market analysis to build digital products, such as web-based dashboards and applications. The products assist healthcare professionals in better understanding their patients\' healthcare access, care and outcomes. These products streamline cloud engineering and data analysis to deliver automated insights that inform clinical solutions. Accomplishments: • Lead $1M awardee product team to collaborate with clinical customers and use large language models (LLMs) to summarize clinical notes and streaming discharge clinical notes. • Enhance patient portal Chatbot, enabling AI reminds for patient discharge orders, medication, and scheduled appointments. • Build web-based platform to track the success of patient progress in remote patient intervention programs, • Develop PowerBI dashboards to inform executives on patient equity and diversity and automate compliance reports to the U.S. Joint Commissioner, and • Devise a data model to enhance patient liver cancer predictions.
