ABOUT BRIAN WHITEHEAD
A background in arts marketing and management for 35+ years, I practiced as an arts management consultant with major projects in the UK and Ireland. Subsequently I co-founded and published the leading UK arts management journal (ArtsProfessional) with my wife, Liz Hill, before passing the business across to new owners in 2021, where it continues to flourish. Now semi-retired, together with Liz Hill, we set up and now run a hyperlocal journal in Histon and Impington (just outside Cambridge UK) with a small team of volunteers and even smaller team of part-time paid staff as part of a Community Interest Company. The publication features a comprehensive news and features website and a quarterly colour magazine which is distributed free of charge to nearly households within the catchment.I have undertaken many pro bono volunteer and board positions throughout my career and since retiring. Most recently I was a director / trustee for Cambridge Live - a charity which ran Cambridge Corn Exchange, Guildhall and City events, Cambridge Folk Festival and other ventures between 20••••19. Since then I have set up an online membership system for Histon Tennis Club and most recently have become a charity trustee and website manager for a Liverpool-based family history society.I remain interested in short-term interesting projects, whether paid (commercial) or pro bono (charitable)I have an eclectic range of current work and volunteer experience including:> Small organisational structure and management> Financial accounts management (including use of Xero and Sage)> Strategic business planning> Design for print and websites (Adobe Creative Suite products)> Membership and subscriptions management (including ClubSpark for sports management)> Volunteer management> Data analysis (primarily Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets)> Genealogical research techniques (including extensive use of Family Tree Maker, FT Analyzer, DNA Gedcom, GEDmatch, Genealogical DNA Analysis Tool and many others)> Mentoring and coaching in relation to any of the above areas of workPast areas of work interest:> Friends and membership management schemes> Quantitative and qualitative research, data management> Print design and distribution> Press and PR> Strategic marketing planning and management> Feasibility studies> Mentoring and coaching of arts managers.Books:> The Complete Membership Handbook - 2004 Directory of Social Change -(with Liz Hill)> Creative Arts Marketing - Third Edition, Routledge, 2017 -(with Liz Hill, Terry O\'Sullivan and Catherine O\'Sullivan)
