About Brian Liu
I have always been interested in the large intersection area between technology and business. My education (BSEE, MBA) reflects this, as well as my career experience and trajectory (Research Engineer -> Management). As I have progressed into managment roles with an increasingly business/organizational focus, I have loved that I have still had the opportunity to keep one foot planted alongside the frontline teams - the research/dev teams designing and executing technology solutions. I believe that involvement informs and hones my ability to develop better teams, solutions, strategies, roadmaps, marketing and recruitment plans for guiding projects into sustainable lines of business for the organization.Ultimately I have found that my greatest passion has become about the people that make it all happen. Leading strategy and business capture of a new and impactful program, building teams to develop the compelling proof of concept, and finally transitioning research science into a product - it is an end to end thrill that I enjoy every time. While working across this lifecycle over multiple different domains has afforded me many learning opportunities, I have learned the most and routinely been humbled by working alongside world class engineers and scientists every day. Mainly I learn that there is always more and that you can never stop learning.Other than the teams and relationships I\'ve built, a few of the achievements I\'m most proud of include:Leading a rapid prototyping program to design, build, produce and deliver blast sensor systems to Afghanistan for US Army soldiers and vehicles during Operation Enduring Freedom.Building a new, sustaining pipeline of sponsored R&D contracts for military wearable sensor ecosystems.Leading the capture, execution and expansion of a $15M sponsored research program for a world-renowned air line - the largest commercial sponsored research program in Georgia Tech history to that point.Spearheading a team on an urgent and rapid data infrastructure and management response in support of the state of Georgia activities to ramp up access and throughput of COVID-19 testing.
