About Brian Orr

I am a Mechanical Engineer with a wide range of experience within the medical device development field. I am highly skilled at generating creative, analytical solutions to optical, electro-mechanical, fluidic and micro-electronic assembly problems. I\'m a highly motivated engineer talented at rapidly turning concepts into physical assemblies using 3D printing, cnc machining, high precision laser cutting and laser welding techniques. I have a diverse background in designing medical device disposable components, semi-automated manufacturing fixtures, life support equipment, micro Class medical implants, hermetic enclosures, and medical device instrumentation. I have served as hardware lead on projects focused on reducing COGS, and tech lead on implantable bioelectronic medicine. I have worked to source full supply chain for an implantable product and interfaced with contract manufacturers to set up a manufacturing line. I am very experienced with FDA requirements on the product development process from input requirement generation through to verification testing and report generation. I have extensive experience performing failure analysis covering topics ranging from titanium and precious metal metallurgy, internal vapor analysis, x-ray analysis, micro-electronic assembly processes, and other topics. My general philosophy when it comes to product development is to be as hands on as possible. My skills in product development allow me to go from a 3d modeled concept, to building prototypes in-house utilizing CNC machining, laser welding the components, testing them for hermeticity, getting cross sections of units and then performing analysis of weld joints utilizing metallurgical microscopes and scanning electron microscope with EDS to understand the intermetallics formed.
