About Brian Merkley

I concentrate my practice in all areas of estate planning for individuals and business succession planning for closely-held businesses.I devote a significant portion of my practice to implementing comprehensive estate plans to accomplish clients’ objectives regarding the disposition of their estates, while at the same time maximizing the credits and exemptions from federal estate and gift taxes under the Internal Revenue Code. I also assist high-net worth families in making wealth transfers to charities and family members using testamentary and lifetime strategies.My business practice includes entity and tax minimization planning for partnerships, limited liability companies and corporations. A primary emphasis is placed on the transfer of business interests to family members or key employees in the most tax efficient manner to provide the second (or third) generation with the best opportunity of continuing the closely-held business.My practice also consists of representing executors in probate administration and the settlement of estates. I am a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Estate Planning Council, and the Dallas Bar Association.
