About Brian Matlock
After 22 years as a Navy nuclear operator and supervisor, the time has come to figure out what I want to do when I grow up. As a guy with a liberal arts education and engineering experience, I feel like I have a strong, diverse set of skills and abilities (not nearly as specific or cool as Liam Neeson’s…) that would be useful in many fields. I am looking for a job in a technical or technical leadership role, but am also interested in unique opportunities.I love solving puzzles and figuring out solutions to challenges. Troubleshooting equipment and planning/scheduling maintenance and operations have been my favorite ways to scratch that itch while in the Navy, especially when it required coordinating with other departments, divisions, or commands, presenting that extra hurdle to solve. I also enjoy looking for ways to shake up “the way we’ve always done it,” trying to figure out ways to change routines to be more efficient and effective.Away from work, I enjoy puzzles and games, reading, animals, video games, trivia, and sports. Sometimes it’s difficult to find people of my skill level to enjoy playing sports with – not because I’m that great, but because most people as unathletic as me aren’t interested…If you have advice on where I would find an interesting and challenging career, whether with your company or in general, or just want to connect to see what we can learn from each other, I look forward to hearing from you.
