About Brian Ellsworth
Brian is a communications professional with more than 20 years of experience as a reporter, editor, and manager. He has been working as an independent writer, researcher, and communications consultant in Washington DC since 2023. Before that he was Reuters’ Miami-based correspondent for the Caribbean, covering stories ranging from humanitarian crises in Haiti to the collapse of cryptocurrency platform FTX in The Bahamas. He was Reuters’ Venezuela bureau chief from 2018 to 2021, during which time he oversaw coverage of tumultuous political and humanitarian crises. In other roles for Reuters, Brian covered Venezuela\'s oil and gas sector as well as the energy and mining industries in Brazil. He has reported from 12 countries including Ecuador, Colombia, Guyana, Haiti, and The Bahamas. He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and speaks intermediate French and Haitian Creole. He graduated from Macalester College in 1998 with a degree in political science.
