About Brian Bellgraph

Thinker. Nerd-translator. Dad. Biologist. Vegetable Fermenter. My research to date has focused on assessing the effects of human energy production on fisheries and aquatic ecosystems. I wear another hat building teams for the development of innovative renewable energy technologies and methodologies. On the side, I advocate for improving our local food systems and own a kimchi and sauerkraut business to get my hands dirty.

Experience

  1. Earth Scientist

    Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

Apr 2006 — Present · Richland, WA, US

I am inspired by innovation and spend much of my time at PNNL as a research-development manager, bringing together teams to push technological boundaries toward improving our Earth-energy systems. Of special interest to me is understanding the interactions between renewable energy (e.g, waterpower) and how new technologies can be used to overcome and reduce the human impacts of energy generation on rivers and other aquatic systems. Currently at PNNL, I manage a research portfolio quantifying the impacts of hydropower on migratory fishes and leveraging new technologies and innovative solutions to improve environmental outcomes.
